A quick review of the Sunday morning political programs revealed a variety of Republicans with plenty to say on political current affairs.

Dick Cheney on Gitmo Releases

Dick Cheney has been privy to the inner workings and secrets of the U.S. Government for the past several decades. He is acutely aware of what it has taken to keep this country safe. Cheney is merely warning of the dire consequences of dropping policies that have worked and allowing Gitmo prisoners to be released into the world. Former Gitmo detainees have and will continue to target Americans given the opportunity.

As much as the liberals hate to be reminded it bears repeating. We have not been attacked again since September 11, 2001. Whatever the Bush administration did – worked.

Dick Cheney on Colin Powell

Colin Powell is a great American patriot and well respected as he should be. He is certainly free to support and vote for whomever he wants. Dick Cheney is merely pointing to the fact that if you do support and vote for a liberal Democratic President you’re really no longer considered a Republican by anyone that considers themself a conservative.

Newt Gingrich on Gitmo Detainees

Newt Gingrich is spot on. Keep the Gitmo detainees out of the United States. It’s simple – do not let them in.

He also had some choice words for the lying Nancy Pelosi.

Here is the full transcript and worth reading.

John McCain Speaks of Gitmo

Rounding out Sunday morning was Senator John McCain weighing in on a number of issues on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos. Topics included Gitmo, the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and the state of the Republican party.

This past weekend GOP leaders laid the foundation for a Republican resurgence with a new initiative called the National Council for a New America. Some of the key players in the effort are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Congressman Mike Pence .

“Certainly our party has taken its licks over the last couple cycles. No one is under any illusion about that. But that is why we are here. That is why we started the National Council for a New America because it is important for us to reengage, to partner with the people of this country. To make sure that what happens in Washington is relevant to the challenges they face each and every day.”

~House Minority Whip Eric Cantor

“We are the party of the revolutionaries. They’re the party of the monarchists. They are the party that believes government knows best and that government is the sovereign.

“And we are the party that believes the people and free people and people pursuing their own dreams are what make America the strongest nation and most powerful nation on earth…and we are going to continue to be revolutionaries,”

~former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney

“It’s time for us to listen first, to learn a little bit, to upgrade our message a little bit, to not be nostalgic about our past because things do ebb and flow.”

“It’s nice to remember the good old days when the good guys–if you’re a conservative–were in power….but none of that matters right now. What we need to do is to listen, to learn and then there will be new generation of leaders that will lead.”

~former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush

Under the current administration our country is currently being subjected to big government, out-of-control pork bills, oppressive taxes, astronomical debt, impending immigration reform, and federal funding of world-wide abortion just to name a few of the vital issues of the day.

The task of the National Council for a New America is daunting but not insurmountable. What Republicans need to realize is that true conservatism has lost its way over past years. What’s needed is fresh faces and revitalized ideas with an emphasis on shameless and unapologetic values that are based on the ideals of this country.

“The NCNA will bring together citizens from across the country to begin a dialogue with the American people through a series of forums, town halls, and an online effort that will engage people in a discussion to meet our common challenges and build a stronger country through common-sense ideas. The NCNA will be a dynamic, forward-looking organization that will amplify the common-sense and wisdom of our fellow citizens through a grassroots dialogue with Republican leaders.”

~a letter from Republican leaders John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mike Pence, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, John Carter, Pete Sessions, David Dreier, Kevin McCarthy, Roy Blunt, Mitch McConnell, Jon Kyl, Lamar Alexander and John Cornyn.

The GOP has no one else to blame but themselves for becoming the minority party and the NCNA is a step in the right direction on the path toward renewed confidence in the Republican Party.

Rush’s First Televised Address to the Nation:
Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Speech

Rush Limbaugh has no Presidential or political aspirations. He is merely a private citizen, like millions of us, that has an opinion and something to say about the politics of this country. What is different about Rush is that he has a big soapbox to express his opinions from and he did just that while speaking to a forum of the Conservative Political Action Committee this past weekend. This seems to bother the left and as is typical liberals will attack Rush with all the zest and zeal they can muster up.

White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel indicated that Rush is the voice and energy behind the Republican party. He is but one voice, albeit a loud one, among many. It is the Obama administration that is empowering Rush Limbaugh when they continually and obsessively bring up his name. Emanuel told Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation that, “Our goal is to reach out.” The problem with that is every time they have reached out in the past month it was to pick the pockets of hard-working Americans in order to bailout another group of losers and bad decision makers.

This country did not become great through programs of government dependence but by individual independence from people that had vision and took risks.

It has to be assumed that whoever has the loudest conservative voice will be unmercifully attacked using every tool in the liberal arsenal in an effort to silence the opposition.

Rush will not be silenced.

As GOP governors meet in Florida this week the most pressing issue is how they get the Republican Party back on its feet. The rebuilding needs to begin now. At the same time Michael Steele, a former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, is poised to run for the chairmanship of the RNC. He is an excellent choice for this position and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him. These are good starts and steps in the right direction. Additionally there needs to be an internet grassroots groundswell and you would have the makings for a Republican recovery. It’s going to be tough with an entrenched Democratic majority but the next elections are only two years away. Democrats will be after the remaining seats still held by Republicans. Strong GOP leadership and guidance is going to be required to defibrillate the heart of the Republican Party and make considerable gains in the 2010 elections.

While stumping Diane Sawyer is no difficult task, many viewers who watched her interview with Bill O’Reilly on ‘Good Morning America’ were left scratching their heads over this question- “Who is the RNC [Republican National Committee] Chairman?” The answer, which I had to search for on the Internet, is…drum roll please…Mike Duncan. Mike who? Never heard of this guy. But, I would bet my life savings you would know the DNC Chairman. Of course, it’s former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard ‘The Scream’ Dean.
If last Tuesday wasn’t indication enough, let me break it down nice and clear for everyone. The Republican Party needs a face lift. And no, not a Michael Jackson or Joan Rivers face lift to create a whole different face. But rather a nice, simple, and firm nip and tuck to restore its former glory. Who’s the man to revitalize this wrinkled image? No, not former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. We need someone who will pump your body up. Not some girlie man. Of course, I’m talking about California’s and my Governor (even though I live in NH) Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Thanks to an improved sex life due to Obama’s win, Schwarzenegger has the popularity, image, and name recognition needed to chart the party on a new direction. Unfortunately, Arnold is ineligible for the Presidency due to his birth status, but this position is certainly an important one. The RNC Chair is not a billet to be filled by a buddy as a political gesture of goodwill or favor, but a real leader that can unite the party. Agree with me? Tell the Governor!

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
