“Raising taxes on the wealthy” makes for a good liberal campaign promise. I imagine it gives many that are not wealthy a warm, fuzzy, feel-good feeling to stick it to the wealthy because they have enough money. Democratic legislators are counting on the unknowing masses to feed on this liberal fallacy. It’s what keeps millions locked into an entitlement state of mind that would otherwise allow many to become self-sufficient and get off the government dole. This dependency becomes the Democratic voter base when promoting the redistribution of wealth theory.

This reminds me of the movie “Back to the Future”. “Hello, Hello, anybody home McFly (as he’s being bopped on the head), Think! Think!”

Do you actually think that the wealthy are going to dig into their own pockets and come up with more money for taxes? No they’re not! Companies will just raise the prices on goods and services as well as maybe decrease hiring and increase firing of employees. That is where the tax revenue will come from – you, the hard-working Americans in this country.

Why is there not more emphasis on controlling the spending? What is the thought process that allows politicians to spend our country into trillions of dollars of debt? Billions of American dollars sent overseas so that countries will be our “friends” (aid to foreign countries). Billions of dollars wasted on pork barrel spending (Pig Book) and let’s not forget entitlement programs with little to no oversight.

Our expenditures have far surpassed our income. It is not a difficult concept and should be very easy to understand although difficult to except. We no longer have any money and are in exorbitant debt. Drastic measures are now necessary at the federal level as well as the state level to bring about a balanced budget throughout this country.

There is enough blame to go around from both sides of the aisle for how we got here. Maybe the American voter should be cast into that same net of blame, voting in the same financially irresponsible politicians squandering away the taxpayers money each and every election. We have now reached the point of having to contemplate raising the debt ceiling, the next big battle in Congress.

So here we are on tax day 2011. The current tax code is so inextricably complex that the majority of Americans require help, and pay for that help, when preparing their tax forms each year. Even the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, Douglas Shulmand admitted, “I find the tax code complex, so I use a preparer.” Treasury Secretary Timothy Geitner made mistakes when preparing his taxes and apologized to Congress.

It’s time to dispense with the mantra of raising taxes on the wealthy. In the end we all pay for that mindset. Maybe it’s time for a flat tax and level the playing field for all those that pay taxes.

“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
~Benjamin Franklin

Once again tax day is upon us. With the recent passing of health care legislation, which takes care of the death part of Benjamin Franklin’s quote, there now needs to be some emphasis on tax reform. Our current tax system is repulsive at best.

Tax filing has become an exercise in hand-wringing, nail-biting and hair-pulling for the average American. Filling out tax forms has become so convoluted and complex you must pay someone to uncover all the hidden ways that the legislators have created in order to squeeze another dollar out of us citizens. Paying someone to file your taxes is like thieves coming to your door and you hire somebody to hand over your money to them.

It would not be so bad if it were not for incompetent buffoons frivolously squandering our money away known as earmarks and pork. Not convinced – check out the Pig Book. It’s “The Book Washington Doesn’t Want You To Read”. Be sure to take your blood pressure pill before reading. Every single taxpayer in America should read the Pig Book and be outraged unless they no longer have a pulse.

Let’s not assign all the accountability to our elected politicians, afterall we voted them into office and then, in many cases, continually vote to reelect them and therefore must share the blame. This evidently serves as a mandate to them to spend, I mean waste our money as they see fit with few if any repercussions from constituents. It is fiscal irresponsibility at the highest level of this country.

How about this idea that was bandied about the other day in conversation. Do away with the current tax system and add the federal tax to everything you buy. No longer will you have the tax stolen, I mean deducted from your paycheck. That’s right, you get your whole paycheck with the freedom to spend your money as you please. Want a vehicle? There will be federal tax. Want a yacht? Federal tax. Want a new home? Federal tax. Want groceries? They will have federal tax. This way everyone contributes to the tax system. Those on the receiving end of the “spreading the wealth” philosophy, well they will now be contributing to their existence. Don’t want to pay taxes? Don’t buy anything. At least you will be in control of your tax contribution.

Of course the other half of collecting tax is spending the people’s money wisely which our elected officials appear completely inept. Be sure you are not in an agitated state and place all breakable items out of reach before clicking and reading Citizens Against Government Waste.

Well here we have the tax evader himself, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, announcing the crackdown on a legal tax loophole for U.S. businesses overseas. Isn’t the reason that businesses move overseas is because they have been taxed out of the country? It cannot be stressed enough, these companies are operating legally.

Obama has said the government is hiring nearly 800 new tax agents “to detect and pursue American tax evaders abroad.” How much will this cost?

The President claims his plan will generate $210 billion over 10 years. So here’s the question: will closing this loophole and providing a new windfall ease the tax burden on middle class America? The answer is no. The government will continue to find ways to waste additional money and money that it does not even have.

This plan has the potential of crippling U.S. businesses, hurting job prospects and creating job losses. And who does this really affect? That’s right, once again, the average Americans that the Democrats lay claim to being the defenders of.

Here is a scene that could be right out of the old TV show The Twilight Zone where the cobwebs outnumber the passengers waiting for a flight. The only problem: there is no Rod Serling and it is not The Twilight Zone. It is in fact a repugnant reality. Seems that in between denigrating our troops John Murtha also finds time to waste plenty of American taxpayer money on his back-home pet project. If this doesn’t raise the hair on the nap of your neck with outrage then you have become desensitized with the glut of government waste from recent bailouts and stimulus pork spending.

Still not frothing at the mouth yet? Here’s another report for you to enjoy while you pull the rest of your hair out.

John Murtha is one political dinosaur that needs to be voted into extinction. But with this kind of money pouring into his district it’s highly unlikely that local constituents will vote him out.
