Smoke and Mirror Road Show

The President went on the road to promote his stimulus bill. His stops included Elkhart, Indiana and Fort Myers, Florida. In between he addressed the nation.

Questions that needed to be asked, “Mr. President would you place your finger exactly on the spot in the stimulus bill where it states jobs will be created in Elkhart, Indiana.” Or another question, “Mr. President point out the exact location where a new manufacturing plant, industry, or business will be built in Elkhart using funds from the stimulus bill.”

Or how about in Fort Myers, Florida.  “Mr. President would you show us within the stimulus bill how tourism will be revitalized and home foreclosures diminished.”

The recurring theme in each speech is that this bill is not perfect. Well then take out the imperfections. Excise the fat. What’s that? Oh, it’s too late. The Senate voted 61 to 37 to pass the economic stimulus bill. Three Republican senators – Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe both from Maine and Arlen Specter from Pennsylvania – voted for the bill.

This is not a day to backslap, high-five or celebrate. The tremendous economical burden that has just been placed on the backs of hard-working middle-class America will be felt for generations.
