Jesus Christ, Democrat or Republican?

In the 1890s, the phrase “What Would Jesus Do?” became popular amongst many fundamental Christian religions. Almost 100 years later, the same saying reappeared, however this time colloquially shortened to WWJD. Ah yes, one couldn’t venture anywhere without seeing it tagged on bridge underpasses, strapped around wrists on bracelets, written on t-shirts, and even tattooed on some bodies. While this fad seems to have died off for another 100-year slumber, the 2008 Presidential election begs the question, “Who would Jesus vote for?”
Truly step back and contemplate what this question means. Imagine a world which emulated this clever marketing money-maker. A conversation with my Catholic priest is what sparked my inner monologue on this subject, and I couldn’t help but to share it with my fellow Christian Americans.
While Jesus Christ has been given many affectionate names by his billions (with a ‘B’) of followers- Lord, Savior, Redeemer, Lamb of God, etc.- there has been no mention of his political affiliation.
Duh, there weren’t any Republicans and Democrats in 0-33 A.D. I know, play along.

A quick examination will allow us to view Jesus’ positions on the hot-button issues.
Abortion – OK, let’s put this one to bed. (Bad choice of words) Jesus would not, I repeat, would not, agree with abortion. Pro-life or -choice, I believe we can all agree on this one.
Iraq War – Jesus was opposed to violence. He said so in the Garden of Gethsemane. “Put your sword back into its sheath, for all who take the sword, will die by the sword.” (Matthew 26:52)
Taxes – Look, even Jesus realized you had to pay your taxes, it was your debt to God in which he was more concerned. (Matthew 22:15-22).

While Republicans tend to boast the majority of the Christian base, liberal Christians, believe it or not, do exist. As a Christian, I obviously believe Jesus Christ is above petty politics, this article was purely for entertainment. However, the subject has drawn attention by bloggers. Check it out:

If Jesus was here today he would be neither Democrat or Republican. Jesus will be king of kings, and lord of lords, the true ruler of this planet.

Matthew 25: 32-43 The Judgement reads that we are to take care of each other…if not, there is a consequence
that we may not like. Democrates have an agenda to help each other.
