Tax Day Cometh

“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
~Benjamin Franklin

Once again tax day is upon us. With the recent passing of health care legislation, which takes care of the death part of Benjamin Franklin’s quote, there now needs to be some emphasis on tax reform. Our current tax system is repulsive at best.

Tax filing has become an exercise in hand-wringing, nail-biting and hair-pulling for the average American. Filling out tax forms has become so convoluted and complex you must pay someone to uncover all the hidden ways that the legislators have created in order to squeeze another dollar out of us citizens. Paying someone to file your taxes is like thieves coming to your door and you hire somebody to hand over your money to them.

It would not be so bad if it were not for incompetent buffoons frivolously squandering our money away known as earmarks and pork. Not convinced – check out the Pig Book. It’s “The Book Washington Doesn’t Want You To Read”. Be sure to take your blood pressure pill before reading. Every single taxpayer in America should read the Pig Book and be outraged unless they no longer have a pulse.

Let’s not assign all the accountability to our elected politicians, afterall we voted them into office and then, in many cases, continually vote to reelect them and therefore must share the blame. This evidently serves as a mandate to them to spend, I mean waste our money as they see fit with few if any repercussions from constituents. It is fiscal irresponsibility at the highest level of this country.

How about this idea that was bandied about the other day in conversation. Do away with the current tax system and add the federal tax to everything you buy. No longer will you have the tax stolen, I mean deducted from your paycheck. That’s right, you get your whole paycheck with the freedom to spend your money as you please. Want a vehicle? There will be federal tax. Want a yacht? Federal tax. Want a new home? Federal tax. Want groceries? They will have federal tax. This way everyone contributes to the tax system. Those on the receiving end of the “spreading the wealth” philosophy, well they will now be contributing to their existence. Don’t want to pay taxes? Don’t buy anything. At least you will be in control of your tax contribution.

Of course the other half of collecting tax is spending the people’s money wisely which our elected officials appear completely inept. Be sure you are not in an agitated state and place all breakable items out of reach before clicking and reading Citizens Against Government Waste.
